Folks, found the book with Resolution in it, "The Folding Schooner, " and have ordered a copy of it. I have followed your advice on searching the forums, but the best info anyone seems to have put up is the fact that St. Valery has a centerboard placed way forward, draws a foot with the board up, weighs about a ton, has an outboard well, flush deck, and a flat bottom.   Step 1: Pick a book. I worked with hardcover books with pages. The shorter the book the less opportunity for great detail but the longer the book the more folding you have to do. Obviously if you have a longer word you will need more pages to fit it in and still have the recognizable detail.I always picked books that had page numbers.

Take Apart Boats. A boat is like a swan, it looks perfect on the water but as soon as it gets on land it is big heavy and ungainly, still pretty mind you. His Folding Schooner is an example. It gives access to a selection from the first half of his work Folding Schooner book is far less accessible on the internet than his later work. It is essentially a compilation of 5/5(1). With its two-masted schooner rig, it was a surprisingly handsome boat under sail, but I still think Bolger was putting us on with this one.

He tells in his book The Folding Schooner and Other Adventures in Boat Design of almost getting folded up in his invention when "going through a narrow canal in the wake of a string of heavy motorboats she jackknifed spectacularly in a trough.".

Single-handed Schooner in 18 Feet. A Variation on a Theme by Bolger. Phil Bolger used to do a feature in Small Boat Journal where readers would send him a letter asking about boat designs. He would reply with a discussion and with what he called cartoons. These were drawings to.

The book described all the basic techniques (gluing, nailing and screwing with some fiberglass) to produce five designs: 12' Teal, 7'9" Elegant Punt, 12' Kayak, 31' Folding Schooner, 15'6" Surf, and 20'9" : December 3,Gloucester, Massachusetts. - Bolger's folding schooner. A 30' boat that rides on a normal trailer like two skiffs stacked on top of another. Once you get them in the water, put sideways, unfold, and bolt your 30' boat into place. Brilliance and insanity. The staysail is a pleasure to set and strike, relatively small and on a short hoist.

The gaff rigs offer a challenge, or at least a change of pace, to trim well. We found the sheet purchases too light in a breeze and added another turn each (to on mainsail and on foresail). Re: Bolger Lite Scooner or Bolger Folding Schooner. Other folding options exist though they want more work.

Fold in the ends. 15 foot center section and two 7 foot ends. These might be foldable with one person. Also, the part of the boat that needs to be strongest (the middle) is left strongest (though, really. Folding Schooner by Philip C. Bolger and a great selection of related books, art and collectibles available now at   It's very difficult to build a boat from mini plans printed in a book.

You just lose way too much detail and you can't scale things off them accurately. In the end, I think what you need to hear is that the Bolger Folding Schooner, is not a got boat to cut your building teeth on. A definitive book for the serious schooner nerd.
